Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force to Meet with Bipartisan Legislators on Critical FDA Reforms

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force will meet with a bipartisan group of Members of Congress in both the House and Senate to discuss urgent priorities for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including reforms to new and expedited regulatory pathways, strengthening public advisory committees and ensuring they are free from conflicts of interest, and addressing the growing crisis of prescription drug shortages. The Task Force strongly supports a strong, science-based FDA, and welcomes updates and reforms that meet that goal. However, the convergence of staffing reductions at FDA, political pressure on scientific review, and supply-chain instability threatens patient safety and public confidence in the nation’s drug-approval system. In the upcoming meetings, physician leaders will urge lawmakers to support reforms that reinforce the FDA’s role as a science-first regulator — one that evaluates new therapies on their merits, clinical effectiveness and safety, ensures impartial oversight, and safeguards access to essential medicines.“Patients deserve an FDA that is fully independent, evidence-driven, and prepared to prevent drug shortages before they endanger care,” said Dr. Janet Krommes, Chair of Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force. “This week we will urge Congress for policy changes and appropriate oversight that maintain the highest standards for safety and transparency — and protect Americans who rely on timely access to effective treatments.”For press inquiries and to speak more on this issue with members of Doctors for America, please contact Alli Everton with Continuum Health Group (aeverton@cha-dc.com).

About Doctors for America:Doctors for America (DFA) is a national movement of more than 40,000 physicians and medical students across all 50 states and every specialty who are committed to putting patients over politics. We mobilize and train clinicians to be effective advocates, equipping them with the skills to influence policy and lead change at both state and federal levels. Our work focuses on three core areas: expanding access to affordable care, strengthening community health and prevention, and advancing health justice and equity. Unlike many organizations, DFA does not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies, insurers, or for-profit healthcare corporations—ensuring that our voice remains independent, trusted, and grounded solely in what is best for patients. By uniting the trusted voices of doctors and medical trainees, DFA drives policy change, defends evidence-based care, and works to improve the health of our patients, communities, and nation.
