Lawmakers, Doctors, and Medicaid Families Demand Congress Put Patients Over Profits, Reverse Healthcare Cuts

Economic Security Project Action, Doctors for America, and Unrig Our Economy will host a virtual press conference highlighting growing harm of GOP healthcare cuts on American lives and healthcare system

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last summer, Republicans in Congress passed the largest healthcare cuts in US history to pay for enormous tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. One year later, over 6 million Americans have lost their healthcare, and the Trump administration is creating harsh new Medicaid rules that are set to rip coverage away from millions more.

On the 61st anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, Economic Security Project Action and co-hosts Doctors for America and Unrig the Economy will hold a virtual press conference to detail the ongoing and growing impact of devastating Medicaid cuts on families and our health system, highlight the looming threat to Medicare, and call for a full restoration of these essential programs as well as the Affordable Care Act.

The program will feature perspectives from members of Congress, healthcare workers, and Medicaid families who fear their coverage will be terminated. Members of the press will be able to submit questions to speakers through a moderated Q&A box. This virtual event will take place Thursday, July 30th, 2026 on Zoom, Register for the event here.

This call is part of ESPA’s broader “Stop the Healthcare Heist” Medicaid Day of Action featuring 59 co-sponsors and dozens of rallies, banner drops, press conferences, and other actions across the country targeting Republicans who voted to cut Medicaid. About Doctors for America: Doctors for America (DFA) is a national movement of more than 40,000 physicians and medical students across all 50 states and every specialty who are committed to putting patients over politics. We mobilize and train clinicians to be effective advocates, equipping them with the skills to influence policy and lead change at both state and federal levels. Our work focuses on three core areas: expanding access to affordable care, strengthening community health and prevention, and advancing health justice and equity. Unlike many organizations, DFA does not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies, insurers, or for-profit healthcare corporations—ensuring that our voice remains independent, trusted, and grounded solely in what is best for patients. By uniting the trusted voices of doctors and medical trainees, DFA drives policy change, defends evidence-based care, and works to improve the health of our patients, communities, and nation.
